Losing a friend or a relative is hard enough without the additional stress of resolving their personal affairs and distributing their estate – all in the first few days. As specialists in probate, our experts can take care of your application and try to lighten the load by handling all matters throughout the process with an efficient and sensitive approach.

How can we help?

Our probate specialists at Paradigm Wills & Legal Services can assist by:

Writing to all creditors and debtors to get a valuation of assets and liabilities;

Putting in a statutory notice of death;

Completing the appropriate tax forms;

Arranging for the estate to pay any tax that may be due;

Submitting all paperwork to the probate office and the inheritance tax office to receive the Grant of Probate;

Supporting you in collecting all monies, selling properties and shares (if applicable), paying off any debts and

Creating a set of estate administration accounts before distribution of inheritance can take place.

When a person passes away, their money, possessions, and estate must be distributed in an organised way. This includes identifying all the person’s assets and liabilities to establish the value of the estate.

If the deceased person left a will, the person who deals with the estate and follows the wishes of the will is called the ‘executor’. To be an executor, a legal document called a Grant of Representation is issued by the probate service, which proves your authority to administer the estate. Once this has been approved, a Grant of Probate will be issued and you can make decisions on claiming, selling, and distributing the assets.

If the deceased person left an invalid will or no will, the person who deals with the deceased person’s estate is called an ‘administrator’. The court may appoint an administrator before dealing with the deceased person’s estate.
